About the event
For this years fall multi-day campout BOAR will be heading to Delta to watch the annular solar eclipse, and dig up some trilobites. Delta is right in the middle of the best viewing path for the eclipse, and working with the county we have reserved camping at the Millard County Fairgrounds for the group by the rock crawling courses.
You must register ahead of time in order to attend this event as we need a headcount of attendees when we true up with the county on the reservation.
This area can support anything from a tent on the ground all the way up to a RV. For those sleeping on the ground, be aware it is a dirt lot, and even gravel in some places so you will want to bring a mattress of some kind. For trailers we do have a limited number of electrical hookups if needed for $10 a night. These will be handled on a first come first served basis so if you are interested in one please contact us directly to pay ahead of time. Be aware the bathrooms on site will be closed, but there are a few gas stations just up the road.
We will also be bringing a handful of solar glasses for viewing the eclipse, just in case you forget yours.
The current plan is to meet up Friday evening at the fairgrounds, wake up Saturday and watch the eclipse which starts around 9:08 and is a full eclipse by 10:28, then around noon head out down some dirt roads to the trilobite beds. After digging for a few hours we may go see some nearby points of interest before heading back to camp. We have the fairgrounds site reserved til Sunday, so those that want to stay a second night can do so, or you can head home after the trilobite dig.
Any 4x4 vehicle should be able to make it to the trilobite beds, just be sure to bring water, a shovel, and a hammer if you have it.
Should be a unique and fun event in one of the prime eclipse viewing locations.
Hope to see you there!
