The event started Saturday morning at 9am, and had booths from BOAR, the Utah Off Road Recovery Team, and the Utah 4 Wheel Drive Association. Free hotdogs, chips, sodas, and waters were provided along with gloves and trash bags. Everyone was split into 3 groups, with each group running a different trail to maximize our cleanup effort. After going over some basic rules and giving thanks to those who made the event possible, we held a drawing for 4 Trasharoo bags that had been donated by Trasharoo for our event. They were extremely useful and if you haven't checked out their bags before, we definitely recommend giving them a look now at www.trasharoo.com.
Once our winners were selected the groups departed in 10 minute intervals until everyone was out on the trail. A few hours later, large amounts of trash started arriving at the drop off location. It took some effort but we managed to get all the trash compacted into the truck/trailers to haul away. Some of the interesting items found were a floor jack, drive line, front of a washing machine, and an oil drum.
The following Monday the trash was weighed at the dump and totaled 1840lbs, plus another 200lbs from a second trailer, with a grand total of an incredible 2040lbs.
We are grateful to all who came out and made the event a success, and we look forward to continuing our work to preserve the areas we love to recreate in.
